We don’t meet people by accident. 16 Some will help you grow, some will hurt you, some will inspire you to do better. At the same time, you are playing some role in their lives as well. Know that paths cross for a reason and treat people with significance.

17 There is no better joy than helping people see a vision for themselves, seeing them go to levels higher than they ever would have imagined on their own. But that doesn’t mean you have to fix them or enable them; 18 Offer them support and motivation as they find their own way and show you what they’re capable of. All you have to do is believe in them.

Never look down on someone unless you are helping them up. We like to think of life as a meritocracy(精英统治),so it’s easy to look down on someone who isn’t as successful or accomplished or well educated as you are. But you have no idea how far that person has already climbed or where they will end up. Time could easily reverse(颠倒) your positions, 19

Appreciate those who have supported you, forgive those who have hurt you, help those who need you. 20 Treat all people -including yourself-with love and compassion, and you can’t go wrong.

Treat people the way you want to be treated and life will instantly get better.

A. so be sure you treat everyone with dignity.

B. therefore, cherish every person you meet.

C. Never fix them when they make mistakes.

D. Don’t tell them how to get there but show the way.

E. instead, guide them to the source of their own.

F. Business is complicated, life is complex and leadership is difficult.

G. Every person you meet will have a role in your life, be it big or small

【答案】16.G17.D18.E19.A20.F

选项G中的“Every person you meet”与上句中的meet people呼应,选项G中的“have a role in your life”与下句中的各种影响呼应。故选G。

选项D中的“show the way”与下句中的helping people see a vision for themselves 呼应,并且还与第三个空格后的Offer them support and motivation呼应,所以选项D可以作为本段主旨句,故选D。

选项E中的instead(取而代之的是)符合上下逻辑关系,且选项E中的guide them to the source of their own 与下句中的find their own way呼应,故选E。

且选项A中的treat everyone with dignity与本段中心句Never look down on someone(不要小看别人)呼应。故选A。

Traveling with kids, regardless of the age, is a terrible thing for new parents. Responsibility is high and travel expenses might be unexpected at any point of the trip. If you are planning your first road trip or vacation with children, there are several important things to consider.

16.根据下文and many parents sometimes lose their kids. Popular tourist destinations are overcrowded, too.(很多父母有时会失去他们的孩子。 Airports and train stations are usually overcrowded.(机场和火车站通常人满为患。)

Your first trip might not be so exciting, but with a careful preparation, your family trip will be the most memorable one.(你的第一次旅行可能没有那么令人兴奋,但经过精心准备,你的家庭旅行将是最难忘的一次。)中your family trip可对应到G选项中planning of the trip 。

You do not need to pack tons of toys, sweets and a tablet full of games in order to keep your little ones entrained.(你不需要打包成吨的玩具,糖果和一个充满游戏的平板电脑,以保持你的孩子的注意力。)中entertained可对应到B选项中Keep them entertained(让他们保持注意力)。

17.本段主要讨论元音,前文提到“there are five main vowel letters: a, e, i, o, u.”,C选项“Sometimes the letter “y” can make a vowel sound, too.”

20.前文提到“find someone who can practice with you and act as a spoken English tutor.”

所以第2小题本段的支撑句(分)是下文“One of the most effective ways to learn a language is to listen to someone speaking it.”

To help you understand what 5G is, and what it means to you, we’ve put together a handy guide here.

What is 5G?

16 At its most basic level, 5G will be used to make calls, send texts, and to simply get online. But it’s going to be significantly faster than previous generations, and could open the door up to a range of exciting new uses.

 17

5G will use new higher radio frequencies to send out data, which are less cluttered(挤了)and carry information much faster. While these higher bands are faster, they don’t carry information as far. That’s to say, smaller multiple input and output antennas (天线)will be used—promoting both signals and capacity(容量). 18

Why is it better than 4G?

5G is expected to be faster than 4G, with some firms claiming it could be as much as 100 times quicker. The fastest 4G networks can deliver peak download speeds of around 300 Mbit/s. 19 In real life, this could allow you to download a full HD film in less than 10 seconds!

20 It means there will be very little—if any—delay when you carry out tasks on a device. While this will help improve things like gaming experiences, it could also pave the way for safer self-driving cars—in which even a short delay could be life-saving.

Finally, 5G will have a larger capacity, meaning networks will be able to deal with several apps at once. Generally, this should mean that devices have a faster, more stable connection.

A. How does 5G work?

B. How will 5G affect you?

C. 5G is also expected to have a lower latency.

D. 5G is short for “5th generation mobile network.”

E. In comparison, 5G could offer download speeds of over 1 Gb/s.

F. Therefore, the similarity between 5G and 4G technology is huge.

G. This means 5G will support up to 1,000 more devices per meter than 4G.

【答案】16.D17.A18.G19.E20.C

16.由“What is 5G?”

17.由“5G will use new higher radio frequencies to send out data, which are less cluttered(挤了)and carry information much faster”可知,5G将使用新的更高的无线电频率来发送数据,这些数据传送的更顺畅,传输的速度更快。 故选A项。

18.由“That’s to say, smaller multiple input and output antennas (天线)will be used—promoting both signals and capacity(容量)”可知,也就是说,更小的多输入和输出天线来将被应用----提升信号质量和容量。

19.由“the fastest 4G networks can deliver peak download speeds of around 300 Mbit/s”可知,最快的4G网络可以提供大约300Mbit/s的峰值下载速度。

20.由“It means there will be very little—if any—delay when you carry out tasks on a device”可知,这意味着当你在设备上执行任务时,即使有延迟,也会非常少。

How to Build a Better Breakfast

We've all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that may actually be true. A study found that breakfast eaters were more likely to lose weight than those who didn't eat a morning meal. 16 But it's not just when you eat; it's what you eat. These tips will help you really rise and shine:

1. Eat even if you're not hungry.

Although you might not feel like eating first thing in the morning, it's a good idea to get something into your system. Eating within 90 minutes of waking up will jump-start your metabolism(新陈代谢)and keep you from getting hungry later. 17

2. Be boring.

Changing what you eat is a good idea in theory, but if you are watching your weight, you might want to stick with the same old menu. People who allowed their breakfast calories to change have larger waists(腰围)and a higher incidence of metabolic syndrome(代谢综合征)than folks who keep their morning calorie intake constant, no matter how much they eat the rest of the day. 18

3. Add peanuts or peanut butter.

By eating peanuts or peanut butter, the carbohydrates(碳水化合物)are taken in more slowly and blood sugar does not rise as high. 19 So they are less likely to snack later.

4. 20

There's an old saying that advises ''Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper. " It's worth following. Those who eat a balanced 700-calorie breakfast over a 12-week period lower their blood sugar and blood pressure twice more than people who eat a 200-calorie meal. They also lose an average of 19.2 pounds and have lower levels of ghrelin, the "hunger hormone(激素).

A. Go big.

B. Pile on the produce.

C. Other studies link skipping breakfast with a higher risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes(糖尿病).

D. So it's worth making the effort to hold it steady.

E. It could set you up for overeating throughout the day.

F. Just a banana will do the trick.

G. Plus women feel fuller for up to 12 hours after eating the peanut butter or peanuts.

【答案】16.C17.F18.D19.G20.A

16.根据空前的“A study found that breakfast eaters were more likely to lose weight than those who didn't eat a morning meal.

17.根据空前的“Eating within 90 minutes of waking up will jump-start your metabolism(新陈代谢)and keep you from getting hungry later.”

18.根据空前的“People who allowed their breakfast calories to change have larger waists(腰围)and a higher incidence of metabolic syndrome(代谢综合征)than folks who keep their morning calorie intake constant, no matter how much they eat the rest of the day.”

19.根据空后的“So they are less likely to snack later.”

20.根据本段内容,特别是第一句“There's an old saying that advises ''Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.

How to Meet New People

It is easy to find a place where people gather. But once you’re in a room full of people, then what? The trick is finding a way to approach someone and get them talking to you.

Prepare to meet new people before you arrive. 36 . Don’t think in terms of yes or no questions. You should consider questions that will allow the person to contribute more than a one-word answer to the conversation.

★ Arrive at your event or place. Don’t panic when you walk in the door. Take your time and look over the room. If this is a classroom, take a seat and look around the room. 37 , take time to enjoy the art while looking at the people. Don’ t rush into talking to someone. You have time, so just get a feel for the group.

★ Approach someone. 38 .  But remember, if the person is at the event alone, they may also be shy and try to break out and meet people. You need to make them feel comfortable by chatting with them.

★ 39 . Keep them talking and talk yourself—remember, conversation goes in two directions. You may have a couple of awkward moments, but if you have a few items planned to talk about, you’ll find that they’ll start adding their own questions and information to the conversation.

【答案】36.G37.B38.F39.D40.A

36.由“Prepare to meet new people before you arrive. ___1___. Don’t think in terms of yes or no questions.”

37.由“take time to enjoy the art while looking at the people”可知,就要花点时间在观察人们的同时欣赏一下艺术。

38.由“But remember, if the person is at the event alone, they may also be shy and try to break out and meet people”可知,但是要记住,如果一个人单独参加活动,他们也可能很害羞,并且会努力打破尴尬局面结交新朋友。

39.由“You may have a couple of awkward moments, but if you have a few items planned to talk about, you’ll find that they’ll start adding their own questions and information to the conversation.”

所以小题5为一次性活动,且与“try asking your new friend if they’d like to go to another event with you”构成条件状语从句。 故选A项。

Have you ever been bored and decided to check social media, only to find out that your best friend is at Disneyland, that one of your classmates is eating delicious pizza at your favorite pizza store, and that one of your soccer teammates is climbing the Eiffel Tower in Paris? Have you ever had that feeling that others are experiencing things and enjoying life more than you are? Oh, man! You're missing out! 16 Researchers call that feeling the fear of missing out or FoMO.

17 It's so easy today to see what your friends are doing from the social media. Unluckily, we only have so much time in the day and only so much money to spend on food or entertainment It would be impossible for us to enjoy all the same activities we see others take part in on social media.

Rather than realizing this basic truth, though, we usually let FoMO lead us to compare our lives with those of others on social media. 18 Why? We know all the sides of our lives— both good and bad. but all we see on social media are the picture-perfect moments others share.

19 FoMO makes us check social media more frequently, leading to addiction and a negative cycle that can be hard to break. Researchers have found that social media and FoMO can cause serious negative results, including feeling of depression, loneliness and boredom.

20 Researchers advise that we stop looking to social media for happiness. Instead, we should focus our attention on our real lives, including the people around us and all the things we're grateful for.

A. Have you ever experienced FoMO?

B. At least that's what you might think.

C. This certainly leaves us feeling dissatisfied.

D. So how do we break the cycle and avoid FoMO?

E. Over 75% of young people report feeling FoMO from time to time.

F. As famous Theodore Roosevelt said, "Comparison is the thief of joy".

G. If you let FoMO control you, the only thing you'll really be missing out on is your own life.
